https://youtu.be/E9qhPrJ2jak Daily Reading for Thursday, August 31st, 2017 Reading 1, First Thessalonians 3:7-13 7 And so, brothers, your faith has been a great encouragement to us in the middle of our own distress and hardship; 8 now we can breathe again, as you are holding firm in the Lord. 9 How can we thank God enough for you, for all the joy we feel before our God on your account? 10 We are earnestly praying night and day to be able to see you face to face again and make up any shortcomings in your faith. 11 May God our Father himself, and our LordJesus, ease our path to you. 12 May the Lord increase and enrich your love for each other and for all, so that it matches ours for you. 13 And may he so confirm your hearts in holiness that you may be blameless in the sight of our God and Father when our Lord Jesuscomes with all his holy ones. Responsorial Psalm, Psalms 90:3-4, 12-13, 14, 17 3 You bring human beings to the dust, by sa

Daily Reading for Wednesday, August 30th, 2017

https :// youtu.be /3JhtFAkv-DY Daily Reading for Wednesday, August 30th, 2017 Reading 1,  First Thessalonians 2:9-13 9  You remember, brothers, with what unsparing energy we used to work, slaving night and day so as not to be a burden on any one of you while we were proclaiming the gospel of  God  to you. 10  You are witnesses, and so is God, that our treatment of you, since you believed, has been impeccably fair and upright. 11  As you know, we treated every one of you as a father treats his children, 12  urging you, encouraging you and appealing to you to live a  life  worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and his glory. 13  Another  reason  why we continually thank  God  for you is that as soon as you heard the word that we brought you as God's message, you welcomed it for what it really is, not the word of any human being, but God's word, a power that is working among you believers. Responsorial Psalm,  Psalms 139:7-8, 9-10, 11-12 7  Where s

The guru, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh , was found guilty on Friday of having raped two women more than a decade ago. Thousands of Mr. Singh’s followers had gathered in Panchkula in Haryana State, where the verdict was announced.  They responded by smashing cars, setting fire to buildings and attacking police officers in the city, about 150 miles north of Delhi, and the violence later spread to other cities in northern India . CHINA AND INDIA AGREE TO EASE TENSIONS IN BORDER DISPUTE

Image
CHINA AND INDIA AGREE TO EASE TENSIONS IN BORDER DISPUTE India and China agreed on Monday to back away from their confrontation over a tiny slice of territory high in the Himalayas, easing tensions between the world’s two most populous countries. For weeks, worries had been growing of a major conflict between the two nuclear powers, in what had developed into one of the worst border disputes between the countries in 30 years — punctuated by a rock-throwing, chest-bumping fracas between the Chinese and Indian soldiers. Both sides agreed to give some ground in order to end the standoff. In a short statement, the Indian government said it had reached an “understanding” with Beijing and had agreed to an “expeditious disengagement” along the border, pulling back troops who had been sent to the disputed area to block the Chinese from building a new road. China seemed willing to compromise as well, still claiming the disputed territory, but making no mention in its sta

KENYAN AUTHORITIES IMPOSE £30K FINE FOR CARRYING PLASTIC BAGS

Image
KENYAN AUTHORITIES IMPOSE £ 30K FINE FOR CARRYING PLASTIC BAGS KENYAN authorities have taken the toughest action yet on plastic pollution — slapping a minimum fine of two million shillings (£15,000) for the “use, manufacture or import” of carrier bags. The minimum fine can be replaced with a year behind bars, while the maximum penalties are fines of four million shillings (about £30,000) or a four-year prison sentence. The median annual wage in Kenya is just 80,000 shillings (around £600). Nairobi has defended the harsh penalties by pointing to the way non-biodegradable bags are blocking sewers and choking waterways. The United Nations environment agency says that animals can be suffocated or poisoned by the bags. Environment Minister Judi Wakhungu said manufacturers claiming the ban would hit jobs were off the mark, saying that the production of environmentally friendly bags would create jobs. It follows action against plastic bags in many other co

TRUMP’S “NEW” STRATEGY IN AFGHANISTAN IS DOOMED TO FAIL

Image
TRUMP ’ S “ NEW ” STRATEGY IN AFGHANISTAN IS DOOMED TO FAIL President Trump’s new strategy that would presumably win the war against the Taliban in Afghanistan is doomed to fail, just like Bush’s and Obama’s before him. At best, the reported dispatch of an additional 4,000 American troops as recommended by his security chiefs will prevent the total collapse of Afghanistan and thwart the Taliban from winning. Given the complex nature of the conflict, however, the status quo will not change in any significant way. might think that after 16 years, the US should have learned that the Taliban will not be defeated. The only solution rests on a negotiated agreement with the Taliban while inviting the Afghan tribes to do the heavy lifting, as they are the only party who can effectively work with the Taliban to reach an enduring agreement. Together, they can fight against the various terrorist groups that have converged on Afghanistan, because they want to end foreign interventions tha

Daily Reading for Tuesday, August 29th, 2017

https://youtu.be/tWADsFzs40s Daily Reading for Tuesday, August 29th, 2017 Reading 1, Jeremiah 1:17-19 17 'As for you, prepare yourself for action. Stand up and tell them all I command you. Have no fear of them and in their presence I will make you fearless. 18 For look, today I have made you into a fortified city, a pillar of iron, a wall of bronze to stand against the whole country: the kings of Judah, its princes, its priests and the people of the country. 19 They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you, Yahwehdeclares, to rescue you.' Responsorial Psalm, Psalms 71:1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 15, 17 1 In you, Yahweh, I take refuge, I shall never be put to shame. 2 In your saving justice rescue me, deliver me, listen to me and save me. 3 Be a sheltering rock for me, always accessible; you have determined to save me, for you are my rock, my fortress. 4 My God, rescue me from the clutches of the wicked, from the grasp of

THE PERFECT TIME OF THE DAY TO HAVE NAP

Image
THE PERFECT TIME OF THE DAY TO HAVE NAP Power napping is undoubtedly a skill.  Not all of us are able to drop off for 30 minutes in the middle of the day, even when we’re exhausted. But those of us who can nap reap considerable benefits to their health, productivity and brain power. And it turns out there’s actually a perfect time of day to grab some quick shut-eye: 3pm. The reason for this comes down to our circadian rhythm, which dips around 3pm. Many people also experience post-lunch sleepiness or a lack of alertness, making it the perfect time to nap. You should aim to nap for 20 to 30 minutes - any longer and you risk falling into a deep sleep which could actually leave you feeling groggy for an hour after waking up. This is known as sleep inertia. And although a nap can be particularly valuable if you didn’t get enough sleep the night before, napping for too long could make it harder to sleep that night. According to the latest report by the Sleep Co

NORTH KOREA LAUNCHES MISSILE OVER NORTHERN JAPAN If initial reports of long-range missile over US ally prove true, the act will be regarded as more provocative than previous short-range missile launches NORTH KOREA LAUNCHES MISSILE OVER NORTHERN JAPAN North Korea  has test fired a missile over  Japan  in an unprecedented act that is likely to further enflame tensions in the region, Japan's government has confirmed. It is the latest act of provocation by the communist state since it fired missiles into the Sea of Japan three days ago, following comments from President  Donald Trump  that he would meet any threats from North Korea with "fire and fury". If initial reports prove correct and a long-range missile has been flown over the Japanese mainland, this will be regarded as a far more provocative act than flying shorter-range weapons into the sea. The Japanese government's J-Alert warning system advised people in the area to take precautions, but publi

GOOGLE FACES DEADLINE AS CLOCK TICKS TOWARD NEW EU FINES

GOOGLE FACES DEADLINE AS CLOCK TICKS TOWARD NEW EU FINES Google faces a Tuesday deadline to tell the European Union how it plans to comply with an order to stop discriminating against rival shopping search services under threat of new fines that would add to a record €2.4bn (R37.6bn) penalty. The EU gave the Alphabet unit 60 days to propose how it would "stop its illegal content" and 90 days to make changes to how the company displays shopping search results when users start seeking a product. Those changes need to be put in place by September 28 to stave off a risk that the EU could fine the company 5% of daily revenue for each day it fails to comply. "The obligation to comply is fully Google’s responsibility," the European Commission said in an emailed statement, without elaborating on what the company must do to comply. Google declined to comment. The onus is on Google to find a solution that satisfies regulators, who’ve learned from past battl

The 19-year-old has just started at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where her father Barack and mother Michelle studied law. She was with a friend in Harvard Square when she was approached by a stranger who asked for a photograph for her grandchild, TMZ reported. Ms Obama declined “politely”, according to the celebrity news website, and went into a salad shop. However when she emerged from the shop, she discovered the woman had waited for her outside and was simply going to take the picture without permission. “Are you gonna take it in my face like an animal in a cage?” she says in a video of the encounter which appeared to have been taken by a third person.
