The 2017 figure jumped up by 7.8 per cent to a record €405.7m ($489.3m). Dortmund’s consolidated turnover, adjusted for internal transfer activity, rose by 16.8 per cent to €328.4m.
"We have broken through our revenue sound barrier. We had originally planned to do so only in 2019," said chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke. "From 2011 to 2017, we have achieved an overall profit after tax of around €134 million, and are as such one of the most profitable companies in Europe."
Watzke indicated Borussia Dortmund's worth was "upwards of €1bn."
Dortmund’s greatest source of income was revenue derived from the club’s participation in the Uefa Champions League – securing €51m.
Further revenue came from the Bundesliga media-rights income, which rose by €5.3m. Overall, Dortmund brought in a total of €125.8m from media rights, up from €82.6m the previous year.
The club’s board reportedly expects income to increase by almost €21m when the new domestic Bundesliga rights cycle kicks in.
Before tax, Dortmund had consolidated earnings of €9.1m after registering €34.4m in the previous year, driven heavily by transfer activity.
